10 Signs that you're almost 30!
I am 27 years old and have read many articles from different people's perspective on the signs that you are "getting old."
Many of them are funny, because they are so close to being the truth you can only but laugh at it.
Last week I had a late night of drinking with my girlfriends, and this made me realise... I really am getting older. Seeing as though the big 3.0 is creeping up on me, I have decided to make my own list of the tell-tale signs that you are getting older. Let me know how many you can relate too.
1) Getting fat is easy, getting thin afterwards... not so much. This is something I know about all too well. I picked up 25kg's and it took me a year of eating right and exercising to shed it. I can feel myself slowly picking it up again. That son of bitch just wont leave me alone!
2) Exercise is something we HAVE to do.
Do you remember when you were in Varsity and you were always out and about. Always active and you never really needed to work out? Well it's different now. You want to loose weight or stay fit? You would need to get your ass to the gym or put on your running shoes and hit the road. Thing is, with most of us working a full time job and having kids and husbands exercise is something that needs to be put into our schedule. It is no longer something that "just happens".
3) No matter how rich your parents are and how spoilt you were in Varsity, there comes a time when we all need to be responsible adults and get a job. That time is usually now. By now (now being almost 30) you have a full time job that you have probably been working at for a number of years. You have a real job with real problems. No more bitchy girls and shitty remarks, you have deadlines to chase and your bosses ass to kiss. Real problems!
Working at one company for a long period of time is usually a sign of being grown up. Most of us are climbing the corporate ladder and that is our main purpose to stay. That or you're too lazy to send out your cv to new companies as this would mean starting from the bottom all over again.
4) Have you noticed how fast our money disappears now? I get paid today and by the time all the debit orders have come off and all my accounts have been paid I am close to being broke again! Being an adult costs alot!
5) Another sign I'm getting older are the clothes I wear. I am all for showing cleavage and wearing short skirts and dresses. But thing is, my cupboard no longer ONLY consists of such items. Those skirts are not comfortable, well not for me anyway, as I am always pulling them down, trying not to show my ass to the world. I am now all about comfort. I wear items that look good, but also make me feel comfortable. I don't want to have to suck my stomach in the whole day simply because if I don't want my pants button to shoot off and hit some-one.
6) Gosh, these youngsters that wear those booty shorts. I want so badly to walk up to them and give them a good talking too! Why would you want to wear shorts that show your butt cheeks? Its not cute! Just typing this is making me feel old! Youngsters annoy me now! I cant be around them for too long because they are so chirpy and chatty and they get stupid when they are drunk!
You know you are getting old when the younger generation annoys you.
7) Drinking is not the same. People say this often, because it is the truth! I cant drink all night and then wake up the next day and function like a normal human being! If I drink too much I feel like crap the next day and I usually spend half the day fighting a major hangover! (The hangover usually wins.)I used to be a legend in my day. I could party on Friday and Saturday evenings and still be at church on Sunday morning looking fresh. Maybe I just need more practice? Maybe I feel and look like shit because I am not doing it often enough? Could that be it? Is that like a real thing? What the hell... lets give it a shot! (haha see what I did there?)
8) Marriage and babies everywhere! All my friends are having babies and getting married, and that's like the "in thing" for kids my age. You are doing Facebook completely wrong if you are not posting pictures of your babies or your wedding. (My facebook posts consist mainly of food)
Nowadays my invites consists mainly of kiddies parties, baby showers and weddings. The nice thing about weddings though, is that before the wedding there is usually a huge drunken, sin filled bachelorette party to look forward too. Sadly the same cannot be said about baby showers.
9) Sadly, part of growing up is loosing some friends too. The nice thing though is by now we have sifted through all the B.S and are now left with lifetime friendships. You may have many acquaintances but your list of close friends is usually shorter. That's cool though, because if you won a competition and you were only allowed to take 4 friends with you, the choice wouldn't be too tough! Can you imagine if you had 20 really close friends and you could only take 4 with you? A riot would break out and strikes would happen, people would start vandalising property and it would just be utter chaos. So be thankful your group of close friends is now smaller than when you were a kid.
10) From young we were taught the difference between right and wrong. As we grow up that line is sometimes a little blury. And that's fine, because being all good can be boring. As a youngster you are meant to get up to mischief, you are meant to get locked up in jail for the night for public indecency! (Kidding!!) My point is that, when you are young you do not have to be all good. If you are, you will have no cool stories to tell your kids. When you get older however, like when you turn 27 you will have to start acting a tad more mature! You will now have to think about the consequences and how these choices will impact your future. And anyway, no-one likes to hang out with a 27 year old who cant seem to keep his/her shit together.
